Review- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Book Description

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

My Thoughts

You know it´s a sad day when a book lover thinks the movie was better than the book.
I think this book and I didn´t have a great start to begin with.
It all started when a good friend of mine gifted me `Gone Girl` by Gillian Flynn as a Christmas present. That alone is a tricky thing to do because I think gifting books is nice, but it gives me the chills. Especially when the person who gifts me a book says „ The lady at the bookstore said you might like it.“ If my friend doesn´t know what I like…then how would a stranger know what I like? * shaking head* To my friends credit…he´s a guy. I forgave him and thought the idea was still cute ( and still creepy).

It´s hard to say if I just didn´t enjoy this book or if I hated it. I´m a bit torn about the whole thing. First…it took me ages to get into the story. The first half of the book was slow and I found myself putting this book down more often than I would have wanted. The second half was a total clusterfuck. I was just as „ emotionally bent“ as the characters were ( God, that was mentioned so often in this book that I now dislike that term ).

Did I like the mystery in this book? No. Did I like the characters? Not really. Why?

I don´t know if it was the characters or their story in general… but I couldn´t understand this book. There was nothing I could relate to at all. There were some things that were mentioned where I understood Amy, but other than that….I disliked her and thought she was just a bored psycho. Nick, Amy´s husband, did nothing for me, either. I couldn´t sympathize with him at all. I didn´t see him as the good or bad guy. He was twisted in his own special way.

My biggest concern was: If a couple is happy on the outside, but can´t stand each other within their own four walls….then why not split up? Happens everyday….the characters should have tried it out.

As for the story…..Well, Amy disappears on their 5th anniversary into thin air and ….the main suspect becomes Nick. Did he really kill Amy or did Amy, the UBER PSYCHO/ WEIRDO / bored housewife ( who thought it would be funny to cause a shitstorm) want attention?

I have no clue because now I´m confused, but only because I don´t know why this story would be a book of the year.

The dual POV`s ( Amy´s POV came more from the diaries she wrote before ) confused me and when I finally „ got it“ I didn´t like it.

The end was…..dull. I expected a huge firework ending to make up for the crappy story. That did not happen. After the last page I couldn´t believe I spent my time reading this book.

The only thing I really liked was the writing style. But that didn´t make up for the rest.

On a positive note- I did like the movie a tad bit better. I thought Ben Affleck nailed Nick 🙂

`Gone Girl` is a typical love or hate book. You´ll either think it´s brilliant or you´ll be as aggravated as I am.

The Cover- 4 stars ( I like the cover alot.)

The Story – 2 stars ( what a royal clusterfuck.)

The Characters- 2 stars ( Seriously, both deserved each other. Such nut-jobs)

My emotional state after finishing this read- I´m just going to repeat my statement above about it being a sad day when a book lover thinks the movie was better. That should sum it up.

I´m giving `Gone Girl` by Gillian Flynn 2 out of 5 stars.

Review- Truly, Madly, Deadly by Hannah Jayne

Book Description

They Said It Was An Accident…

Sawyer Dodd is a star athlete, a straight-A student, and the envy of every other girl who wants to date Kevin Anderson. When Kevin dies in a tragic car crash, Sawyer is stunned. Then she opens her locker to find a note:

You’re welcome.

Someone saw what he did to her. Someone knows that Sawyer and Kevin weren’t the perfect couple they seemed to be. And that someone—a killer—is now shadowing Sawyer’s every move..

My Thoughts

„ They say it was an accident.“

I SAY- this story can be described as the same. Someone accidentally shoved this book in the mystery genre * shaking head*.

I bought this book mainly because of the cover alone. The description was a mega bonus because I do love myself a mystery thriller.

How this book was supposed to be a mystery/ thriller is beyond me. This story was over the top predictable and that was, for me, a turn off. When you can forsee what will happen then that hardly qualifies as a mystery. A reader wants to be kept in the dark. The story has to have some mysterious aspect or else there´s no surprise, especially no thrill.

I might as well keep this review short and just say that I was fully disappointed when I finished `Truly Madly Deadly`. I expected to be scared shitless and sitting on the edge of my sofa, chewing on my fingernails. I expected to be engaged with the characters and feel what they were going through. I expected darkness and all that stuff. That didn´t happen. There were a few ( and by few I mean like, 1 or 2) scenes that were spooky but not scary enough to make me want to hide under my bed covers with all the lights on in the house.

The characters were transparent. The story was flat. The writing didn´t do anything special for me, either. The only huge positive regarding this story was that it was a super quick read.

For a Young Adult/Mystery novel not the worst I´ve read….but also far from fabulous. Maybe I set my hopes up too high for this one… who knows.

What I do know is that I will not reread Truly, Madly, Deadly. Not my cup of tea. I wouldn´t even recommend this read.

The Cover- 4 stars ( I really liked the mysterious side of the cover. It grabbed my attention)

The Story- 2 stars (I´m sad to say that this was a waste of my time. I need something with more substance. Don´t get too excited when you read the part where the Heroine, Sawyer, receives a message in an envelope about her boyfriends accident with a note attached to it that only has „ You´re welcome“ written on it. THAT is the only excitement you´ll be getting out of the story. The rest is just killing time. )

The Characters- 2 stars ( Let´s not go there.)

My emotional state after finishing this read– Disappointed.

I´m giving `Truly, Madly, Deadly` by Hannah Jayne, 2 out of 5 stars.

Review- Unveiling Ghosts ( Unveiling #3) by Jeannine Allison

Book Description

Four years ago, Sherry lost everything. Her house. Her parents. And Hunter, the love of her life. She left the small town she’d called home and tried not to look back. He’s gone. Move on. Don’t think of him. But when she learns Hunter is alive, she’s forced to question that awful night when everything was ripped away from her.

Four years ago, Hunter lost Sherry. She was his home, his family, and the love of his life. He abandoned the town that held so many painful memories, but he couldn’t stop himself from looking back. Where was she? How was she? Did she think of him, too? But when his father’s death brings both of them back home, he must deal with the fallout from his choice all those years ago.

Hunter and Sherry were childhood friends, high school sweethearts, and everything in between. Hunter always told her…

Ours is a love people write stories about.

But will it be a fairy tale or a tragedy?

My Thoughts

I could say so many good things about `Unveiling Ghosts` by Jeannine Allison, but one thing stands out the most. Something I value over almost anything else regarding books- The writing style.

This was my first time around with author Jeannine Allison and I´m overwhelmed with joy that I can say that I have another favorite author I can add to my list.Unveiling Ghosts

The writing style is, what I would refer to as: simple and meaningful. Easy for the mind yet every written sentence holds emotion, wisdom, truth and love. Also- I find it pretty impressive that the author managed to include childhood flashbacks AND dual POVs without disrupting the flow of the story. Chapeau!

When I read the tagline on the cover I remember giving the book suspicious glares.

Ours is a love people will write stories about.“

You´d have to cut me some slack here…. because that´s a line I have heard a million times before. But- never have those words felt more true when it comes to this story.

The story starts off perfect with Sherry explaining her life in wonderful detail until she receives the 2 words she´s been waiting for for 4 years. Those words brought back the hope that disappeared, the life that left her. Before we know it she´s on her way back to the town where everything started and ended. And what she finds will rattle her emotional world.

Enter Hunter and the world feels whole again, or does it? I know it does because the love I have for that boy / man ( childhood flashbacks! Looks like I loved him as a child too * insert awkward silence *) is beyond anything. Let´s just say that I fell in love and can´t seem to stop falling for him.

`Unveiling Ghosts` is an emotional second-chance-romance that also tackles difficult real life topics, such as: death, cancer, abuse and neglect. Those subjects, in my opinion, are always hard to write or even read about and this author has done a wonderful job in weaving all into this heartwarming romance and showing her readers that if her characters are able to overcome their fears then everyone else can.

Will Sherry and Hunter have their happily ever after? Will both drown in the sea of fear and let their ghosts from the past take over their futures?

I guess you´ll have to read the book and find that out for yourselves.

I fully recommend `Unveiling Ghosts` ( Unveiling #3) to anyone who loves good writing, great characters and for anyone who appreciates an emotional rollercoaster ride.

The Cover- 5 stars ( I love the cover. The image doesn´t reveal anything about the story. The colors are beautiful)

The Story- 5 stars ( Everything I could ever ask for all bundled up in 317 pages.)

The Characters- 5 stars ( Sherry and Hunter. Crushed souls without each other, an unbreakable unit as a couple….

My emotional state after finishing this read- * insert major dreamy sigh *

I´m giving `Unveiling Ghosts` (Unveiling #3), by Jeannine Allison, 5 out of 5 stars.

Review- A Sky Full Of Secrets by Briana Pacheco

Book Description

Months after getting kicked out of college my senior year, I made a split decision and moved in with my best friend and his roommate, Nix.

I never thought I’d try the whole ‘friends with benefits’ thing with Phoenix, but he didn’t seem to mind when I offered up the idea.

We promised no feelings would get involved.

We lied to each other, to ourselves.

In his eyes, I wasn’t just the deaf girl or the family burden. I was beautiful and smart and a bit crazy with some anger issues which he overlooked because to him, I was normal.

We were never supposed to be more, but you can’t fight that pull when the stars align.

We are fire and water.

Stars and the moon.

Phoenix and Luna.

This is the story of how a man who loves everything showed a girl how to love herself.

My Thoughts

Once upon a brutally boring night on Facebook I spotted something that stopped me dead in my tracks. The cover for Briana Pacheco´s `A Sky Full Of Secrets`( Cosmic Love #1). After reading the description I acted quickly and ordered myself the paperback… because there was no way I was going to settle for the e-book version ( pretty books need to be on an actual bookshelf!).

The book arrived. I started reading. I finished. I liked it alot.

Make room for Briana Pacheco! She´s going to conquer the book world!

`A Sky Full Of Secrets` is not one of those over dramatic romances with over-the-top first world problems. It´s a story about love, acceptance and dreams. It´s about conquering your fears, dealing with what life throws at you and finding happiness when you´re not sure you´re ready for it.

Luna´s life became difficult when she became deaf. From then on everything slightly went down hill, until…… Phoenix happened.

But Phoenix ( Nix ) wasn´t supposed to happen. Luna didn´t want anything to happen. All she asked for was a normal life and little did she know Nix was exactly the person who could give her that.

But was Luna ready to break down the walls she so carefully built around her heart?

Briana 12
You´ll have to find that one out for yourself by reading the story.

I liked that there wasn´t a super villain. The biggest issue was Luna herself ( including her family) and the way she made her life unnecessarily difficult due to her insecurities and her past. How does one fit in when they don´t feel like they will ever fit in? Luna´s thoughts and feelings were well displayed and I enjoyed reading about her struggle ( that sounds odd. * g * ) She was just a normal girl with a disability that kept her from loving herself and enjoying life as she should have.

A great modern romance with all the feels.

The Cover – 5 stars ( seriously, It´s beautiful. Period.)

The Characters – 4 stars ( Phoenix was the best. His character was interesting and had so much to offer * insert hearts*. Luna was great as well. Mac…..dear Lord. Create a real Mac for me.)

The Story – 4 stars (What I liked most was the aura the story had. Although this is a well written contemporary romance it had a magical touch to it. )

My emotional state after finishing this read- Down right happy and satisfied.

I´m giving `A Sky Full Of Secrets` ( Cosmic Love #1 ), by Briana Pacheco, 4 out of 5 stars.

Wattpad: Online Writing Community-Review

There are hundreds of free online writing communities but none are as fast growing as Wattpad.

As a writer, being apart of an online writing community is genius, expecially on Wattpad2Wattpad.The registration is free and it takes mere minutes for a writer to create a profile, which is a huge bonus, and they can start uploading their stories, fan-fictions and / or poetry. Practial, right? A writer can upload their stories chapter by chapter where readers can vote and comment on. Often, through the comments, a writer can receive feedback from their readers which may or may not be helpful ( depending on the feedback, of course ). Wattpad is a great place for writers to interact with other writers and readers. And another huge bonus? Wattpad writers are able to enjoy some of the many opportunities Wattpad has to offer ( and there are quite a few. Awesome sauce).

As a reader, being able to pick from millions of stories from just as many writers is like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Wattpad is a fabulous platform where a reader can dive head first into any story and explore different genres for free.

It´s an overall win/win for everyone, at first glance. Wattpad is like Christmas on Easter. Everything is idiot-proof. As a writer, you can become super successful and enjoy all the perks Wattpad has to offer and as a reader all you have to do is vote and comment on a story you enjoyed. Include all the cool and fancy fun stuff and you´re at a writer´s fun-park where everyone is happy. Voila!

But what happens when you take a closer look at Wattpad and the writers who publish their stories?

Now- Personally, I love Wattpad. Not because of the neat knick-knacks and fun stuff the platform offers. I love it because it feels like I´m a child in Bookland. I enjoy watching stories grow with each uploaded chapter and I like how easy it is to build connections there.

It´s incredible to see so many talented people in one spot.

From cover designers to writers ( and so many more )… Wattpad is a hot spot no one should miss out on. BUT…….  ( there´s always a but…..*giggle* )

Wattpad2As an avid reader myself I´ve read my fair share of Wattpad stories- many great and fully worth recommending. I´m even surprised that a few of those stories haven´t been picked up by a publishing house yet.

But then again- I´ve been down the „What the heck did I just read?“ road, too. I´ve even been on the „You must be kidding me.“ lane, where I´ve seen the unthinkable happen. It´s sad to say that not everything on Wattpad is golden.

From what I´ve noticed- Wattpad is more geared towards fantasy, science fiction and YA. Of course, there are plently of other genre´s, such as: romance, historical, horror, self-help, etc, to satisfy a reader´s appitite. Wattpad welcomes all, including fan-fiction. Yes. The F genre.

The problem with a platform that allows everything to happen is- everything happens.

With over 40 million members, Wattpad is a place for all kinds of writers. People who take writing seriously, people who see writing as a hobby, people who just want to scribble down ideas and unfortunately- Wattpad is also misused by writers. I´ve even seen NYT Bestselling authors on Wattpad!

One thing really stands out on Wattpad. You can´t get around without being confronted with a fan-fiction. It happens. No use in trying to prevent it. You´ll definitely see an image from Harry Styles ( The kid from 1D ) or a cover with the actor Jamie Dornan on it. And when you see one, you´ll see more. That´s the downside of Wattpad. It´s over flooded with fan-fiction. That´s not to say that fan-fiction is terrible. Personally- I don´t like that genre but some stories aren´t too shabby.  A few fan-fics on Wattpad are actually brilliant. Sadly, not the majority, though. Many on Wattpad are down-right tasteless, tacky, poorly written and so over the top weird you can´t help but categorise all fan-fics as terrible.

Same goes for paranormal, fantasy and sci-fi stories. Wattpad writers have outstanding imaginations when it comes to preternatural and supernatural… it´s mindblowing. If you´re lucky, you can stumble upon a brilliant story that will most likely tear your heart into pieces and leave you with a nasty book hangover.

If luck isn´t on your side you can be stuck with a night full of shifters, skinwalkers ( Yes, apparently- that´s a thing ), toothless, alpha vampires which will definitely make you think about the writers sanity.

Each genre has it´s perks and downfalls in the Wattpad world. But, all the genre´s share one issue: Typos and misspellings ( not all stories, of course, but more than enough).

I believe in the good of everything. I over see lots of stuff all the time because I understand how busy or stressful life can get. But when I start a story on Wattpad and the first lines in the authors note are:

„This is not edited. You´ll find misspellings and typos. I´m sorry. I don´t want to waste my time with editing this.“

„ If you want to read the typo/misspelling-free version you can purchase this book on Amazon.com.“

That´s slightly rude, in my opinion. I´ve read books with over 100 misspellings and it´s annoying beyond means. If you upload something and expect anyone to enjoy reading then surely it´s not too much to ask for less than 20 typos? That can be done, right?

Let´s not forget to mention the sly Wattpad writers who already have their books up for sale on Amazon but still keep 3 chapters from the same book on their Wattpad page…as a teaser. I´m pretty sure that goes against the Wattpad policy. Yet each night, I come across at least 1 writer who does that. Teasing a reader with 3-5 chapters and hope they´ll buy the book on Amazon. These people think they´re clever but forget that Wattpad readers read on Wattpad for a reason. Namely- because of the free stories.

One could believe the fantastic Wattpad is corrupt. I certainly believe it´s corrupt sometimes. The contests many writers run are great but the Watty Awards that run on Twitter are full of horse s**t and alot of  writers are so full of themselves. How can I not think that Wattpad is a place filled with evil minded, shameless people? Have I forgotten the trillion horny teenagers with the Dornan fantasies? ( I can write a book about those people…. )

This doesn´t really put Wattpad in a good light. It´s rather sad. All I´ve mentioned above is rather harmful for the great writing community. But do not fear. Not all hope is lost. Wattpad isn´t filled with all evil. If you take your time, you can find the gems hidden in the sea of stories. You just have to look hard and stick to what the great writers recommend… or ask me and I´ll gladly point out the writers that are out of this world brilliant * wink *.

If I were to rate Wattpad as I would the books I read then I´d definitely give it 4 out of 5 stars. Why? Well, as I´ve said- Wattpad is a great community where readers and writers can mingle and have a great time with stories. Ignore the rude writers, ignore the fanfics, ignore the Watty´s Awards and avoid being sucked into the many events and you should be all set to have a great time. If a reader sticks to the basics ( vote and comment & interaction ) then Wattpad is THE place to be.

I´m giving Wattpad 4 out of 5 stars.

Review- The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

Fine. Watching the movie before reading the book wasn´t one of my brightest ideas, I´ll admit to that. I should have known that movie-to-book doesn´t work. I´ve learned that lesson after watching The Horse Whisperer first and then reading the book. But hey- Can you blame me for making the same mistake twice? There was a huge possibility that my experience would have been different, right? * hangs head in defeat * Wrong. The little voice inside my head warned me not to read `The Devil Wears Prada` after I watched the movie. I still did it.

Book Description

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to complaints about “The Boss from Hell.” Narrated in Andrea’s smart, refreshingly disarming voice, it traces a deep, dark, devilish view of life at the top only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the trendiest cocktail parties. From sending the latest, not-yet-in-stores Harry Potter to Miranda’s children in Paris by private jet, to locating an unnamed antique store where Miranda had at some point admired a vintage dresser, to serving lattes to Miranda at precisely the piping hot temperature she prefers, Andrea is sorely tested each and every day-and often late into the night with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not the job is worth the price of her soul

My Thoughts

We´ve all seen the movie, right? So, there´s no need to explain the story. I loved the movie. It was so entertaining and I just loved Meryl Streep. That woman played her awesome roll so well. The book? The original root?

Let me put it mildly: This book wasn´t entertaining. It wasn´t the movie.

I also don´t believe I would have liked this book anymore if I hadn´t seen the movie. The writing was acceptable but not engaging enough. The story also took ( what felt like ) a million years to take off. And when that point arrived….I still wasn´t happy. I kept thinking that something was way off.

It wasn´t until I was 2/3 into the story when it dawned on me that the characters were the problem. Call me picky….but these characters didn´t have their own voices. I mean….if an author creates a character….surely they imagine them a certain way. What happened? What went when wrong? The characters were ( at times ) dull. You always see characters change or grow in stories, but not in this book. I disliked almost every character. They were either snobby, bitchy, or they were constantly feeling sorry for themselves. COME ON! If you´re not happy with your job and you´re making others miserable… New York is huge. Go and find something else!

It´s mucho hard not to notice the New York Times Bestselling bit on the cover. Why this book reached that status is beyond me. Surely, there must have been a mistake because the story wasn´t that good.

It took me forever to start and finish. It takes me about 3 nights to read a 400 and something page book. And The Devil Wears Prada took me weeks. I just can´t see why everyone was making such a fuss about this book. Seriously, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to go ape-shit. The story is flat and couldn´t hold my attention for longer periods of time.

The author had an idea and she put it on paper. Write a beginning, write the middle section, and end the story. Hmm….THIS WAS A 400 + PAGE BOOK! Where was the build up, where was Andrea´s passion? I´m not kidding…..I had my hopes set up really high for this one and all it brought me was agony, anger, and frustration. I blame everything on the movie.

Before you ask….yes. I did finish this book. Was the end satisfying? Yes and no. The end confused me but I was a happy camper about the fact that I didn´t have to continue the story. Because, I won´t. There´s a book #2 out there called `Revenge Wears Prada` which I won´t dive into because I literally have no enegery left for more.

The only thing I liked about this book was the fashion bits. And I´m not fashionable nor do I understand trends and the fashion market ( I love my sweats with holes in them. If I could I´d wear them 24/7 ) but I really enjoyed the fashion bits in this book.

If you ask me….with the way this book was, it isn´t worth it. It kind of felt like I wasted my time. Hours and hours no one will ever give me back. The only thing that is keeping me from giving this book to my neighbor is the cover. It just looks too pretty to give away.

Would I recommend this book?
– No. I wouldn´t. BUT I recommend you watch the movie. That´s definitely entertaining and alot cheaper. Plus you get a story and get to look at beautiful people.

Would I re-read this book?
– uuuuh…no.

The Cover- 5 stars ( Flashy. Fancy. I like, I like.)

The Story – 2 stars ( great idea, horribly told. )

The Characters – 2 stars ( Dull. 2 dimensional. Nope.)

My emotional state after finishing this read – Disappointed.

I´m giving `The Devil Wears Prada` ( The Devil Wears Prada #1) by Lauren Weisberger 2 out of 5 generous stars.the-devil-wears-prada

Review-Grievous ( Scarlet Scars #2 ) by J. M. Darhower

Book Description

Once upon a time, there was a girl who stopped believing in fairy tales after her innocence was stolen.

Morgan Myers is tired. So damn tired. Most people either push her around or brush her off, and she’s not putting up with it anymore. Determined to reclaim the life that had been stolen from her, she puts her trust in the last person she ever expected to: the notorious they call Scar. Morgan sees a side of him that few people seem to know—the man, not the myth. Lorenzo. And what she sees, she likes, a lot more than she thought she would.

But fairy tales aren’t real, as life likes to remind her. Some dragons, you just can’t slay, no matter how hard you fight them. And when hers comes back around, breathing fire, she’s forced to face some unimaginable horrors. But there’s a white knight in combat boots out there that isn’t afraid of monsters.

You see, it’s impossible to be afraid of something you see every day in the mirror.

My Thoughts

** ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review **

And God said, „ Thou shalt not fall in love with a fictional criminal, especially with one who´s lost all his fucking marbles.“

But, hot damn!! I´m already so truly, madly, deeply in love with Lorenzo „ Scar“. I can´t help myself. He´s probably the worst and deadliest passionate nutcase I´ve ever encountered in a book, yet here I am, a 34 year old woman, desperately wanting to become apart of Lorenzo´s world. * ugly cry* ( I definitely have to think about what went wrong in my life…* cracking up* )

The story of Lorenzo and Morgan continues. * pulling hair * And just why did everything have to end? I mean- it sure as Hell felt like the end. I´m a mess. I don´t want to be a mess. I´m supposed to be happy but I´m not. I feel like the author gave me a gift and ripped it away again with the final words of the story. Damn it. That woman better keep on writing or I´ll turn into an even greater mess, suffering from an odd book hangover for only God knows how long.

( Need to get back to the story )

Where were we? Aah, yes. The story continues with Morgan still trying to get her child back from Kassian, the head of the russian mafia. And much to Lorenzo´s delight he helps Morgan. But one does not simply walk onto russian mafia territory and kidnap the prize. No. Getting back Morgan´s child proves to be a difficult matter and it takes a whole lot of craziness to get the job done.

When two mafia bosses collide… shit´s about to get ugly.

The story was intense, ruthless and so damn awesome.

Lorenzo was his logical / illogical self, doing unpredictable stunts at every turn… all while looking like a sexy, imperfect God. I shit you not- you never knew when he was going to kill someone or not or when he was going to be civilized. The important thing to know was- never fuck with him, especially when he was in his library ( I´m going to miss reading about that room.). So, his previous boredom from the first book ( Menace ) has vanished and he was happily occupied with half blindly swinging his gun at people.

`Grievous` is packed with action, tension, betrayal, sex ( which is mighty fine, if you ask me), death, suspense, forgiveness and above all- love.

The romance between Lorenzo and Morgan is not what you´d expect. No typical knight in shining armor, not damsel in distress story. What we´ve got here is a „ You´re fucking nuts, I´m not that crispy either but we got something good going.“ type of romance. AWESOME! So different from all the other love stories I´ve read so far.

There was one line, one moment in the story where I completely lost it.

„ Morgan,“ he says, his voice quiet as he whispers my name….. „Open your eyes, baby.“

You might think that those few words aren´t really special but when you read the story and get to know these people and read what they went through together you understand the significance of those words. And when you do I dare you not to let out a little noise of disbelief. * sigh * So touching and just….$/()(/%&$%§“§$§%$&%/& Everything after that just clicks into place and you KNOW. You just know.

And the end….Holy Heaven! I loved it. I can´t say anything about it without giving the story away so you´ll just have to take my word for it. It´s so satisfying.

I might be a little over enthusiastic about this story but I don´t care. I´m in love and that might never change. This is my favoite story written by my new favorite author.

I recommend this story to everyone who wants some adventure in their romance.

The Cover – 3 stars ( Meeh, not feeling this cover much.)

The Story – 5+ stars ( I´d need to write an extra review for another round of love gushing. Great read. I´ll have to get myself the paperbacks for my sacred bookshelf )

The Characters – 5+ stars ( I love how crazy these folks acted and how normal they thought their lives were. Lorenzo is a brilliant character. )

My emotional state after finishing this read – I want to high five the author for writing such a brilliant story.

I´m giving `Grievous` ( Scarlet Scars #2 ), by the awesome J. M. Darhower, 5 out of 5 stars

Check out my review for  Menace ( Scarlet Scars #1 )
