Review: Her Twisted Pleasures ( The Twisted Mosaic #1) by Amelia James

Book Description

His hand came off my neck, and he wrapped his arms around me, crushing me against him. I grabbed his hair and forced his mouth to mine, feeding the darkness possessing us…. Submission, yes! Not giving up control but having it taken from me. This… this was why I needed Alex. Will was too nice; he would never abuse me like this. But Alex…mmm…Alex had no such qualms. “What have you done to me?”

Talia indulges her sexual pleasures, turning her life into a twisted mess. Sleeping with Alex is dangerous and reckless. She craves that excitement. Loving Will is comforting and safe. She needs that stability. Why can’t she get everything she wants from one man?

Will has everything under control. Watching his girlfriend flirt with his best friend fuels his lust for her. He loves Talia; he trusts Alex. It’s all good as long as he makes the rules.

Alex doesn’t give a damn about rules. He knows how to play with fire without getting burned. It’s just sex with Talia. No emotions means no attachments. That’s one rule he won’t break.

Sometimes dirty little secrets are more dirty than secret…

My Thoughts

The book description was tempting and when I started reading `Her Twisted Pleasures` ( The Twisted Mosaic #1 ) by Amelia James, I thought I was reading the wrong book. Sex here….sex there….sex EVERYWHERE! * dramatically falling backwards on sofa * A little less sex and a lot more story would have done this book wonders.

I think it´s safe to say that this book wasn´t for me. Like- at all.

Don´t get me wrong- I really appreciate sex scenes in romance novels. Only the sex in this book was too much for me. I needed more depth, more story, more everything in order to not view this read as a porn. I knew damn well what I was getting myself into. I knew there would be sex. I knew about the BDSM, the dom / sub that was in this book. But I didn´t know there was no actually story behind the sex.

It seemed like the balance between dialogue, narrative and action in this book was completely out of proportion, making it difficult to pick out the actual story.

`Her Twisted Pleasures` was supposed to be a love triangle. I didn´t notice one. For me it looked like nothing of the sort happened. It was just sex between 3 people who knew each other.

I was confused, 2 from the 3 main characters were emotionally confused… Everything was just an uncontrolled mess that never should have happened.

And then, after countless screwings without a wink of emotions, the moment of truth happened. All three characters were gathered in the same room! Sadly, that one scene where something monumental should have happened didn´t do much for me either because.. nothing happened.

This book ends on a cliffhanger. One I didn´t care much for because I was not interested in dealing with more sex.

Let´s just put it this way- I didn´t like this one. It was complicated, confusing, twisted and even dull.

I expected more, especially after reading the tons of supportive reviews left on Goodreads and Amazon.com.

Would I reread this book?  Nope.

Would I recommend this book? Not really. Anyone looking for a book with depth and purpose will not find what they´re looking for in this book. If anyone is looking for sex from start to finish then this might be a book for them.

The Cover – 3 stars ( It´s okay. I´m not going crazy over it nor do I hate it.)

The Characters – 1 star ( A generous star, mind you. All 3 main characters were not to my liking, especially the Heroine. )

The Story – 1 stars ( Nope. As much as I enjoy reading about sex, it was too much for my taste. The sex overshadowed everything else.)

My emotional state after finishing this read– Disappointed, to say the least.

I´m giving `Her Twisted Pleasures` ( The Twisted Mosaic #1 ) by Amelia James 1 out of 5 stars.

Separation Games ( The Games Duet #2) – C. D. Reiss

Book Description

These are the unbreakable rules in the game.
Stay collected. Compartmentalize. Think your next move through. Never let your heart dictate your tactics.

The heart is impulsive.
The heart makes bad decisions.
The heart doesn’t see the long game.

Because the heart may have decided to get Adam back, but when the endgame comes, the heart’s going to be the first thing to break.

My Thoughts

I started- I finished- Now I need a drink as large as the state of Texas.

Jesus H. Christ, what a read. To be honest- I feel little joy in reading Dom / Sub stories because they´re often SO tacky. Not this one. `Separation Games` ( The Games Duet #2 ) by C. D. Reiss is dark, it´s rough, it´s gritty, it´s business but it´s also sensual, sexy and full of emotions. I loved it.

In Marriage Games ( Games Duet #1 ) Adam wants to save his marriage with Diana by showing her the life he´s hidden so well, introducing her to a world she never knew he was apart of.

In `Separation Games` Adam quits the game to save both Diana and himself from getting in deeper..  with little success.

The way I just described the story doesn´t sound nearly as exciting as it really is, trust me. It´s a game and either both of them lose or they win. There is no way inbetween for these characters.

This is probably the coolest mind-game story ever since the Consequences series by Aleatha Romig ( God, I love that series ).

The back and forth… the soul shattering emotions… the confusion… Both, Hero and Heroine, knew what they wanted, they just had a hard time fully accepting the fact.

If it were up to me I´d have beaten some sense into the characters. If only life was that easy…. I´d be able to cure heartache and repair alot of relationships. LOL. Sadly enough, I didn´t have the power to end  Adam and Diana´s suffering ( such a pity, really. Well, no. I´m happy I couldn´t cut in or else the book would have only had 35 pages instead of 340 ).

Now about the Dom / Sub issue I have:

Like I said above- Most Dom/Sub stories are just down right tasteless. There´s often no deeper explanation or greater meaning to a BDSM relationship in alot of books. It usually just is and that´s what pisses me off. In `Separation Games` I felt that there was more. Not necessarily a full background check on WHY Adam was a Dom but the fact that he knew his world and how it functioned, how he treated Diana and others in and outside the community was just fantastic! A joy to read about. I´m assuming the author did her homework or she is just brilliant.

Another thing I liked alot was that there was no evil villain. No one lurking in a dark alley waiting to rape someone. ( YAY ) No massive drama. The main focus was on Adam and Diana´s relationship, their lives, their existence.

I have one tiny, itzy bitzy complaint- The end didn´t do much for me. I mean- I was happy but I thought the story would have ended a bit differently. This is just me being picky, so… just ignore me. Lol

Did they make it? Ha. Better start reading and find out for yourselves. All I can say is that I thought it was a worthy read. Maybe even worthy of a re-read.

The Cover – 3 stars ( Yeah, no. I´ve seen so many b/w suits and ties to last me 2 lifetimes )

The Story – 4 stars ( A fantastic emotional read with LOTS of sex. )

The Characters – 5 stars ( Seriously- perfect. I want me a Manhatten Adam. )

My emotional state after finishing this read- Grateful I don´t have to worry about what´s going to happen next. I swear to God, waiting for this book was torture! I can now die as a happy woman.

Marriage Games ( The Games Duet #1 )- C. D. Reiss

Book Description

Thirty days in a remote cottage, doing everything he demands. After that, he’ll sign her divorce papers and give her complete ownership of their company.

THIRTY DAYS

THIRTY DAYS
She wants the business they built badly enough to go to the cottage for a month. Cut off ties to the world and do his bidding. She can submit to him with her body, but her heart will never yield.

She thinks this is his pathetic attempt to repair their marriage.

She’s wrong.

My Thoughts

To be honest- I´m not a huge fan of C.D. Reiss. The only books I´ve ever read from the author were `Kick` ( Songs of Perdition #1) and `Jessica` ( Songs of Dominance #1) and I didn´t care much for both enough to continue either series.

The only reason why I bought `Marriage Games` ( The Games Duet- Part One ) was because the description sounded really good. I can tell you- it´s been weeks since I finished this read and Imma still sweatin´. The fact that I loved this story surprised he shitless.

What a story!

`Marriage Games` is a BDSM story about a marriage gone wrong from the start. Hof can a marriage last when it´s built upon secrets? It can´t. But when those secrets are revealed you better have a portable freezer ready to stick your head in because this is one intense, hot as hell read.

The idea of the story isn´t anything new. It´s been written about at least a hundred times before, same goes for the BDSM. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. But the way it´s told here- Brilliant.

Adam desperately wanted to save his marriage with Diana. But how far was he willing to go?

Seriously, these characters played so well together. They were a team and they functioned. But when it came down to what mattered it was either a make or break situation.

It´s passionate, unpredictable, exciting and unforgiving and you´ll feel like a live wire at the end.

Speaking of the end- The cliffhanger is one of the most brutal ones written in the history of books.

The Cover – 3 stars ( Meeh, * wave off * It´s nothing I´d go nuts over.)

The Story – 5 stars ( Perfectly angsty story with gripping elements. LOVE)

The Characters – 5 stars ( I loved both for who they were, for what they stood for, for how they dealt wth matters and how they ended. Both very powerful. )

My emotional state after finishing this read – Spent beyond words. Shocking ending, terrible book hangover afterwards. Just what I was hoping for.
